Sylvia graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a BA in Psychology and has also received her diploma from the National Guild of Piano Teachers, a division of American College of Musicians, the most prestigious certification in piano, graduating in the top 1 percentile. She has been studying classical technique and theory since the age of eight and has over 25 years of classical piano performance. She has performed in countless weddings, other local/community events, and competed in state piano competitions as well.
Sylvia’s passion for piano started at a young age. Her mother was a piano teacher and a well known pianist throughout her community. Her mother’s dream was to become a world pianist and to tour with the Vienna Conservatory. However, growing up poor, her mother did not have the opportunities to live that dream.
Her mother then discovered that Sylvia had a talent and passion for piano which reignited her dream of now her daughter becoming a world pianist. Though Sylvia possessed the talent, she did not have the same aspirations as her mother. At a young age, Sylvia would watch her mother teach children (and adults) who started with no knowledge of piano, and then become proficient enough to get a scholarship to a music school. Seeing that growth and passion in students is was sparked her love for teaching. Sylvia has been teaching piano for over 15 years now. Her philosophy is that every individual is musical. It’s with the efforts of the student and teacher that those skills are honed so they develop and full musical potential is achieved.
